If you feel like you want to turn over a new leaf this year but you don't want to fall off the cliff of unattainable resolutions, this article is for you.

Turn Over a New Leaf or Two

The path to great change lies in simple steps repeated often.

The following 8 simple steps have the power to unlock a sense of wellbeing, happiness and fulfilment within you today:

8 Simple Ways to Keep your Energy Fresh

1. Nurture Nature in Your Life

Science has proven repeatedly that even the smallest piece of nature has a rebooting effect on our physiological, emotional, mental and spiritual states. Whether it is a pot plant on your desk or a moment outside absorbing the morning light before the busyness of the day starts, find ways to add snippets of nature to your world. The effect will feed your soul and keep you plugged in and invigorated throughout your day.

2. Water Up

60% of the human adult body is water (the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water - according to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158). A major consideration in low energy levels, ill health and disease is dehydration, with our diet and stress levels being the key contributors. Essentially if you want to have improved energy levels and optimal health all around, drink more water. The purer the better.

3. Put Your Feet In It

Earthing or grounding is the practice of going barefoot on the surface of the earth. Environmental medicine has found that direct physical contact with the vast supply of electrons naturally present on the surface of the earth promotes improved physiological changes including better sleep, reduced pain and feelings of well-being. A great reason to add putting your feet on the ground to your daily revitalizing diet.

4. Get It Out

Keeping an eye on your internal stress valve and releasing the pressure when necessary is another vital step in maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. The trick is finding ways to achieve this that are easy and sustainable. For some it’s daily journalling or regular little breaks that do the trick; For others, it's a cuppa with a trusted confidant or working up a physical sweat that keeps them on the straight. Whatever your prefered method, keep up with your internal housekeeping.

5. Take a Healthy Risk

When we become complacent we also lose our energy. To keep yourself fresh you need to keep yourself alive and always a little bit hungry. This leaves room for change, movement and growth. What goals can you set yourself this year that will keep you moving (even if only a little bit at a time) into new territory? Challenges like this grow strength, courage, confidence and faith in the unknown. Carpe Diem!

6. Focus your Force

Choose a mantra, affirmation or word to focus upon this year that represents the renewal you are seeking. Repeat it daily. Let it seep into your awareness and serve as a North Star to guide you home to your truest self. What you focus upon becomes your reality.

7. Attitude of Gratitude

When you lift your awareness to appreciate what you have rather than what you have not, you open to the flow of energy around you. The staleness of lack cannot permeate when the gravity of gratitude is magnetizing your blessings. To keep your energy swirling with joy and delight, look around you and give thanks daily.

8. Breathe

One of the easiest and most effective ways to balance and rejuvenate your energy in any situation is simply to breathe properly. Deep breathing activates the diaphragm muscle for a fuller breath which in turn oxygenates & energises the body, massages the internal organs, clears toxins & balances mood & mind frame. Get into the habit of checking and regulating your breathing, particularly when you are feeling low on energy and you will feel revitalised and ready to go again in no time!

Making the Change

Take a moment now to choose one of the above ways to keep your energy fresh and consider how you can apply or integrate this change into your life today; Remember that the path to great change lies in simple steps repeated often.
